Scarcely before has such a wonder like Akshardham come to existence. It is unique and outstanding because of its stark beauty, spirituality and story of human endeavor.

The steady focus of Akshardham is the concept of Man-making.

Only man can mold his own life and become human in the true sense. To project this message, architecture, beauty, literature, music and hi-tech equipment have been employed with great effort and care to make it experiential and palatable to everybody. The achievement of Akshardham is that it makes an individual into a Man!

Those who have not fully understood the purpose of Akshardham or what it stands for, pose a question, "Why have you built Akshardham! Why not a hospital, a school or college? You should have built a hostel!"

With a little knowledge of the multifarious socio-spiritual activities of the Bochasanwasi Shri Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha it would be known that since 1907 it has been successfully endeavor for the upliftment of mankind. It has set up schools, hostels, health camps for the poor, programs for uplift of women, literacy projects, hospitals and much more. Among all its philanthropic and spiritual endeavors the creation of Akshardham probably crowns it all. The monument is not merely a complex of exhibitions and visual beauty. From its precincts are emerging various contributions for the welfare of our society.

The creation of Akshardham is a delightful story of human trials and herculean efforts and a rare combination of divine grace. In the creation, two elements stand out head above shoulders: Sacrifice of volunteers and Ideal Leadership.

On seeing the monument one feels that a tremendous amount of human effort and energy has gone in its making. The other power behind it is that of the leader, one who has inspired and mobilized the energies of so many for so great and difficult a task. The wonder of all this - equally standing on level with the beauty of the monument - is that neither the volunteers nor the leader, Pramukh Swami Maharaj, claim the honor of this creation. Probably this rare mixture - the monument and the selflessness of the Guru and disciples - is one reason why people are impressed and inspired.

The creation of Akshardham is a milestone event in the annals of Indian history. Time will stand testimony to this great marvel. This great monument of Indian Culture is not a topic of dialogue alone but more so of experience. Seeing is Believing.
